How to Use the Kalayang (Skytrain) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport

Written by Ganjar

Ever since the Kalayang, also known as the Skytrain, started operating at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, getting from one terminal to another has become much easier. Gone are the days when we had to rely on the often overcrowded shuttle buses.

The Kalayang is a free train service that connects the terminals at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. It serves a similar purpose to the Skytrains found at Changi Airport and other international airports. They offer a convenient way to travel within the airport.

The Kalayang's route covers all the terminals at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, as well as the Airport Train station. It begins its journey from Terminal 1, moves on to the train station, then heads to Terminal 2, and concludes at Terminal 3. After reaching Terminal 3, it travels back in the reverse order.

In this article, I'm going to share the process of getting on the Kalayang at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. This guide is especially useful for those who are planning to use the Kalayang for the first time and looking for some helpful tips.

1. Find the Kalayang Station

First off, locate the Kalayang Station at each terminal. For instance, in Terminal 3, you'll find the station situated below the Departure area and above Arrivals.

To reach the station, simply follow the signs. These are conveniently placed throughout the airport, so it's actually easy to spot.

2. Wait for the Train to Arrive

Once at the station, the next step is to wait for the Kalayang. The stations are spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seats for passengers to relax while they wait.

Each station has two tracks, labeled Line A and Line B. In Terminals 1 and 3, both lines go in the same direction. However, in Terminal 2 and at the train station, each line heads in a different direction.

It’s important to choose the right line to ensure you’re heading in the direction you need. Look for the train direction information, which is displayed above each line’s entrance. Additionally, airport staff announce line details when each train arrives.

Kalayang trains usually arrive every 15 minutes. You can check the estimated arrival times on the monitors located around the station.

3. Board the Train

As soon as the train arrives, you can join the waiting line that's already set up. Always let passengers getting off the train go first. After they've disembarked, it's your turn to get on board.

The train has limited seating, mainly reserved for the elderly and those with special needs. Although the train is spacious, it can get quite packed, especially during busy times, because of the longer intervals between trains.

If you can't find a seat, be sure to hold on securely to prevent any accidents when the train starts moving. The trip between terminals is generally short, about 5 minutes, so standing for the duration of the ride is usually manageable.

4. Exit from the Train

As the train approaches the station at the next terminal, an announcement will be made through the speakers. This is your cue to prepare to disembark. Remember to check that you have all your belongings with you, so nothing is accidentally left behind.

After the train comes to a complete stop, you can leave in a calm and orderly way. Then, just follow the signs to your next destination, whether it's entering an Airport Terminal, heading to the Airport Train Station, or something else.

Isn't it simple to use the Kalayang at Soekarno-Hatta Airport? Now, exploring all the terminals at Indonesia's esteemed airport is much easier and more convenient than using the shuttle bus.
