The window seat is a favorite for many travelers because it offers a great view of the sky during the flight.
However, the seat numbers by the window aren't always the same for every flight since it depends on the plane's cabin layout. Plus, each class on the plane might have a different seating arrangement.
If you want to get a window seat, here are a few simple ways to find out which seats are by the window. You can use these tips when you're buying a ticket, after you've bought one, or even when you're checking in.
The first thing you can do is check before purchasing your ticket. This trick can also help you see if the window seats on your chosen flight are already taken or if there are still plenty available.
You can do this through the airline's app, official website, or an online flight booking service. For instance, let's say we're using AirAsia's official website.
First, open the app or website. In this example, I'll use the AirAsia website. Start by entering your departure city, destination, and travel date, then click “Search” to see a list of available flights.
Next, choose the flight that suits you best based on price, departure time, flight duration, and other preferences.
After picking your flight, you'll be taken to the data entry page. Fill in your personal information and continue until you reach the seat selection page. Click on the “Pick a Seat” button to see the seating options.
On the seat selection page, you’ll see the layout of the plane’s seats. Here, you can find out which seat numbers are by the window. You can also check which seats are still available, which are close to the toilet, and so on.
If you’re ready to book your seat, simply choose it and continue with the process. If you want to explore other flights, you can go back to the previous page.
If you've already bought your ticket, you can still find out your seat number or choose and purchase a seat if you haven’t done so yet.
This step can only be done through the airline’s app or official website. For example, I'll use AirAsia’s website again.
First, open the airline’s app or website. Then, go to the transaction list or your ticket order history. Find the flight ticket you want to check, and click on the “manage booking” menu.
Once you’ve selected your flight, you’ll see options for various services like meals, baggage, insurance, and seats. Now, go ahead and choose the option to select or purchase a seat.
On the next screen, you’ll see the seat layout for your flight, along with other details. You can easily find out which seats are by the window and which ones are still available or already taken, indicated by different symbols.
If you’re ready to choose or change your seat, go ahead and do so. If you’re just browsing, you can return to the previous page or close the website.
Many passengers skip selecting a seat when booking because of the extra cost. As a result, the airline’s system randomly assigns them a seat when they check in.
If you’ve received your seat number and are curious whether it’s by the window, there’s a simple way to check by following these steps:
The first step is to find out the type of aircraft for your flight. You can do this by visiting the Flight Radar 24 website and entering your flight number in the search field. After that, select your flight from the list.
On the next page, you’ll see a list of past and upcoming flights. Look for the aircraft type in the “Aircraft” column for your flight.
Once you know the aircraft type, head over to the Seat Guru website. Select the “Airlines” menu, then choose the airline for your flight—let’s say AirAsia in this example.
The AirAsia page will provide various details about the airline, including the types of aircraft used. Select the aircraft type for your flight under the “Aircraft Summary” section.
After selecting the aircraft type, the site will show you the cabin layout. Here, you can easily spot which seats are by the window.
You’ll also find other useful information, like the location of emergency exits, toilets, bassinets, and more. There’s even advice on which seats are recommended or best to avoid.
